Bloodsport of Narayanpur Haat

The blood soaked Rooster-fight is sadly a popular sort of entertainment in many rural areas of India, and the district of Bastar is no exception to this. The tribal people are fond of this sport, which involves heavy betting too. Generally local ‘haat bazaars’ become a ground for these fights. Apart from offering daily needs, these local markets also plays a major role in providing villagers the most famous local sport, Cockfight. It is a kind of leisure sport, which the tribal people love to indulge in. It is a deadly game, in which two roosters fight each other, until one of them is dead. Their claws are fitted with sharp blades, which helps them killing the opponent. The people encircling the ‘battleground’ encourage the fight and on each win, they exchange money. It is said that the roosters are genetically aggressive towards each other. The fight aggravates the feeling and makes an action-packed show for the tribals.
